What we’ve forgotten about history:
The people we know as historical figures were the celebrities of their day.
Their contemporaries didn’t see them as we see them. They were the subjects of gossip: their scandals and their achievements, their love affairs and their misfortunes.
Because gossip is fun.
Some things never change.
The folks who made history were interesting people. Sometimes august and aristocratic, often schemers and scoundrels. Idolized and also snickered at. High achievers who were still subject to the lows of human nature.
In other words, ripe for gossip.

In that spirit, this website offers a tongue-in-cheek presentation of historical figures, as their neighbors may have seen them.
Because the first thing we’ve forgotten about history, is that it’s fun.
